Celebrate with us this month at the Grange! We have two great events planned for June to commemorate our accomplishments throughout the past decade. Please join us on June 14th and 26th for local wine, food and fun entertainment at our winery.
Anniversary Festivities June 14th
I began work on the development of a winery on our family farm in 1999. It’s funny to think it has already been 15 years because sometimes it feels like I have never done anything else. Some days I even feel as if everything is so new and I have so much to learn. We were the fourth winery to open in Prince Edward County and I guess that makes us one of the pioneers, at least that’s what people say. My goal has always been to discover a new agricultural pursuit for this region that is worthy of its long agrarian history. I began my planting with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay; varieties I was sure would thrive in this region and take full advantage the limestone soils and potential for linear mineral driven wines. In the years since I have added Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and a little Sauvignon Blanc for fun!
Our first vintage was in 2003 and we produced a whopping 1,600 cases. On June 7th, 2004, we opened our doors and we have been offering a unique taste of both the farm and our style ever since. Today, The Grange of Prince Edward farms 60 acres of vineyards, producing between 7 to 10 thousand cases of entirely estate grown and made wines. I've been making wine for over a decade on this 200 year old farm and it's my hope that the wines we grow are a testament to Prince Edward County as a flourishing Ontario wine region. Although our style has evolved, our values and beliefs have stayed consistent. We believe in eating and drinking locally, and we believe in over delivering on value. Maggie, my daughter who joined me in operations 5 years ago, aspires to continue to develop and craft wines that reflect both our farm and ourselves. After all, how else will you ever find your place in an ocean of wine?
In honour of this milestone, I would like to invite everyone to join us in celebrating another year of passion and hard work. We will be celebrating our 15th year of operations on Sunday June 14th, 2015. Please come by our 19th century historic tasting room between 11am-5pm for music, local tastes and a celebratory flight of Brut representing the evolution of the farm and ourselves. No invitation is needed; this is our thank you for all the continued support over the years which has helped us to become who we are today. We hope to see you at the festivities.
Anniversary Winemaker's Dinner June 26tH
We were looking through the library and see what was tucked away ... and what a surprise! With over a decade's worth of wines to think about we decided a winemaker’s dinner might be fun. The dinner will consist of five courses at the end of June; one is sure to include strawberries. We even found some of the original bottling from 2010 of the late harvest Sauvignon Blanc. The idea is for Caroline Granger and her daughter Maggie to create a menu that provides an interesting backdrop for their favourite discoveries from the cellar.
Join us June 26th for the forgotten wines Winemaker's Dinner. Guests will be taking part in a sunset wine tasting of our 100% estate grown wines, commencing at 6 pm. We hope the experience will demonstrate our unique terroir and its evolution. Following the tasting, we will enjoy an intimate dinner paired with our forgotten library wines. These wines are rare, and only a few bottles remain in the winery cellar. It truly is a once in a lifetime chance to try these specific bottles. Each wine has a story which Caroline and Maggie will share with you from their unique perspective. The dinner will be an entirely locally sourced menu to provide a totally terroir driven experience. Tickets for this intimate event are limited. The cost is $125 per person. It is sure to sell out quickly. To purchase tickets, click here or visit our online shop.
